People from the Gujjar and Meo communities had clashed in Bharatpur, 275 km from Jaipur, following a dispute over a tract of land. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is probing the matter.

Accompanied by Union minister Jitendra Singh, Gandhi rode pillion in a motorcycle. Eyewitnesses said the two leaders visited Pathroli in a vehicle at 8.45 am and then went to Maliki and Piproli on motorcycles.

Gandhi went to the mosque in Gopalgarh where the firing had taken place, spoke to members of the Meo community and promised justice to the aggrieved families.

He, however, did not meet the Gujjars.
