DC approves district disaster mgmt plan

Deputy commissioner Arun Sekhri, who is also the chairman of the District Disaster Management Authority, on Saturday approved the detailed district disaster management plan (DDMP) to deal with calamities.

Deputy commissioner Arun Sekhri, who is also the chairman of the District Disaster Management Authority, on Saturday approved the detailed district disaster management plan (DDMP) to deal with calamities.

The DC said the draft plan would be sent to the state government for final approval and added that the plan had been prepared with an aim to prevent loss of life or property in case of a disaster.

He informed that the booklet meant for the public would have details about steps to be taken during disasters, emergency services, organisations which provide help during disasters, essential telephone numbers and plans about safety measures to be taken by various departments among other things.

After the state's approval, the plan would also be uploaded on the district administration's website.
Zila parishad chairman Baljeet Singh Bhutta, additional deputy commissioner Malwinder Singh Jaggi and assistant commissioner (complaints) Ravjot Kaur Grewal were also present at the meeting.
