Asian Games 2023 Day 8 Highlights: Sable, Toor win gold, controversial silver for Jyothi as India's tally crosses 50

Jyothi Yarraji took off briskly at the blow of the whistle but lost steam in the closing moments of the dash. She finishes 3rd in the women's 200m Heat, with a timing of 23.78, behind China's Lu Yuting (23.67) and Kazakh athlete Olga Safronova (23.71), who have qualified. The qualification rules are that the first two in each heat qualify and then the next two fastest also advance to the final! So Yarraji will need to wait!

Some archery update! On the first day of the sport, India's Jyothi Vennam is off to a strong start, shooting to the top spot in compound qualification. With 24 arrows, Vennan managed a score of 236. Her compatriots, Aditi Swami is placed 7th and Parneet Kaur 15th. Avneet Kaur, with 225 points is 25th.

Megha Pradeep qualifies for canoe sprint 200m women's semifinals, after finishing in fifth place in her heats, with a timing of 56.705

In the women's heptathlon long jump event, Nandini Asagara from India achieved her season's best performance by making a strong jump of 5.91 meters in her first attempt. This has placed her in the second position, with only Ekaterina Veronina from Uzbekistan ahead of her. In her second attempt, Nandini covered a distance of 5.77 meters. Among the Indian competitors, Swapna Barman managed a first jump of 5.63 meters.

India are in action in archery in the men's and women's recurve, compound events.

Nandini Agasara registered 5.91 in her first attempt in long jump, and is second in the round's leaderboard. Meanwhile, Swapna Barman's turn is yet to come!

India will also be in action in shooting now! We have shooters in the Trap-50 men's and women's qualification (phase 2). The qualification round will also have respective team finals.

Swapna Barman and Nandini Asagara are in the action now, in the long jump round of women's heptathlon. Nandini ended Day 7 in fourth position and Swapna is sixth.

Today, the female golfers are in red-hot form, but the same cannot be said for their male counterparts. In the final individual round, Arnirban Lahiri is facing a tough challenge, currently tied at 13th place, while India, as a team, is currently ranked 7th overall.

It's been an early morning start for India on Day 8 with some of India's finest golfers in action straightaway. Aditi Ashok has kept India's medal hopes alive and kicking, holding on to the lead in Round 4. She is 22 under par and has maintained the first position while Pranavi Sharath is languishing at 11th. On the women's team leaderboard, Thailand are right at the top at -28, followed by India at -27. The women have made all the right noises so far.

Meanwhile, in men's individual round 4, Anirban Lahiri is tied at 16th, SSP Chawrasia is T20 and Hitesh Joshi is T24. The Indian men are tied at seventh in the team category.
