Somdev, Prakash a tie away from main draw

Somdev Devvarman and Prakash Amritraj entered the final round of the $630,500 LA Tennis Open qualifiers. The 152nd-ranked Somdev overcame a late challenge from 175th-ranked Slovak Luka Gregorc, 6-1, 7-6(1), while the 263rd-ranked Prakash beat German Frank Moser 6-0, 7-6(3) to reach the final round.

Somdev Devvarman and Prakash Amritraj entered the final round of the $630,500 LA Tennis Open qualifiers.

The 152nd-ranked Somdev overcame a late challenge from 175th-ranked Slovak Luka Gregorc, 6-1, 7-6(1), while the 263rd-ranked Prakash beat German Frank Moser 6-0, 7-6(3) to reach the final round.

Somdev next plays American Alex Bogomolov Jr and Prakash meets Ryan Sweeting of the US for a place in the main draw.

The top seed in the main draw is World No 20 Tommy Haas of Germany. Five qualifiers will make it to the main tournament.

Meanwhile, Somdev slumped 25 places to 152nd position in the recent Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) rankings. Prakash has moved a place to 263rd.
