Puducherry postpones school reopening

The union territory government which had announced the reopening of educational institutions has postponed the decision. The decision comes after the education minister meeting the lieutenant governor Tamilisai Soundararajan on Thursday.

Puducherry Class 12 exam cancelled: Chief Minister of Puducherry N Rangasamy announced on Monday that this year's plus-two Board examinations are cancelled in view of the ongoing pandemic situation in the Union Territory.

The number of new cases were detected at the end of testing of 9,086 samples in all the four regions of Puducherry, Karaikal, Mahe and Yanam, Director of Health S Mohan Kumar said.

Twenty-seven more people succumbed to the disease during last twenty-four hours raising the toll to 1025. The deceased were in the age groups ranging between 47 and 85 years.

Talking to reporters after receiving a paracycling team from Chennai which had arrived here to spread Covid vaccination awarenes, Lt Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan said hospitals, including government institutions, are fully equipped with beds, oxygen beds, medicines and other requirements.
In view of Covid-19, a night curfew from 10pm to 5am is already in place in Puducherry.(PTI)

The lockdown comes in the backdrop of Puducherry registering 987 new Covid-19 cases on Thursday, taking the overall tally to 50,580.
