As protests continue in parts of the North-East, the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Indian National Congress blamed each other. Union minister, Jitendra Singh, accused the Congress of 'fishing in troubled waters of Brahmaputra'. The BJP maintains that people of the region are being misled over provisions of the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2019, which was recently passed by both the Houses of Parliament. Congress' Kapil Sibal said that the Central government has been 'playing with fire'.
