Russia’s new Geran-4 strike drone reportedly contains a surprising mix of Western and Chinese components, raising fresh questions about the effectiveness of sanctions imposed after the Ukraine war. Ukrainian intelligence says the UAV includes parts traced to companies from the U.S., Germany, Switzerland, Japan, Taiwan, Britain and China, with many critical systems allegedly sourced from Chinese manufacturers. According to Kyiv, the Geran-4 uses a Chinese-made jet engine that boosts its speed to nearly 500 km/h and extends its strike range to around 850 kilometres. The revelations have fuelled accusations that global supply chains are still indirectly feeding Russia’s military-industrial complex despite years of sanctions and export restrictions.
