Pervez Musharraf's body to be flown to Pakistan, buried in Karachi: Reports

Pervez Musharraf Death: Pervez Musharraf had been suffering from a rare disease known as Amyloidosis.

The body of Pakistan's former military ruler Pervez Musharraf is expected to be repatriated on Monday. Pervez Musharraf, who fled Pakistan in 2016 for medical treatment after a travel ban was lifted, died on Sunday in Dubai. He was aged 79.

His body will be flown to Pakistan on Monday with a burial expected later in the day, AFP reported quoting unnamed officials. Pervez Musharraf seized power in a 1999 coup. He was then acting simultaneously as Pakistan's army chief, chief executive, and president when the 9/11 attacks on the United States took place.

During his nearly nine-year rule, Pervez Musharraf suspended the constitution twice and was accused of rigging a referendum, as well as human rights abuses.

Pervez Musharraf had been suffering from a rare disease known as Amyloidosis. Senior military chiefs "express heartfelt condolences on sad demise of General Pervez Musharraf", a statement by Pakistan military's media wing said.

Meanwhile, Dawn reported that Pervez Musharraf's body will be laid to rest in Karachi, and will be brought back to the country on a special flight that will leave for Dubai on Monday. However, the Pakistan government has not issued an official statement on the date or venue of the burial.
