Another fire broke out in Queens at 19-05 Flushing Ave. in Ridgewood over the weekend on Saturday morning around 4 a.m. The three-alarm fire started in a first-floor tyre shop and eventually spread to residential apartments on the second floor.
FDNY Assistant Chief David Sims told 1010 WINS that the fire was hard to manage as it continued raging even after being sprayed with water.
Jesus Maldonado, the building manager, expressed relief that every tenant was able to flee but said that the other occupants are "devastated" since "they've lost everything."
There were nine reported injuries, among which were four firefighters. The five injured tenants were treated for smoke inhalation and minor burns by the American Red Cross present on -site.
A Reddit comment under the original post for Shanghai You fire read, “This is common in Dec/Jan in flushing when leases end and restaurants purposely have a fire to claim insurance money. Also fire spreads fast because on 40th road the buildings are old, pre-war 2. They used to be office buildings.”
