Inaugural edition (2007): Hosted by South Africa, the inaugural T20 World Cup witnessed India lifting the trophy under the leadership of MS Dhoni. Yuvraj Singh's blistering six sixes in an over against England remains etched in cricketing folklore. India beat Pakistan in a thrilling final.

Pakistan's moment of glory (2009): After missing out in the inaugural edition, Pakistan were second time lucky as they beat Sri Lanka by eight wickets in England.

England triumph (2010): England clinched their maiden T20 World Cup title in the Caribbean, defeating Australia in a dramatic final. Kevin Pietersen's superb form throughout the tournament played a pivotal role in England's success.

Caribbean dominance (2012): This was the start of West Indies dominance in the T20 World Cup as they beat host Sri Lanka by 36 runs in the final.

Sri Lankan supremacy (2014): Co-hosted by Bangladesh, Sri Lanka asserted their T20 supremacy by clinching their first-ever T20 World Cup title by beating India by six wickets. Highest run-scorers: The ICC Men's T20 World Cup started in 2007 and since then six editions of the tournament have gone by, and it is India's Virat Kohli who tops the tally of batters to have scored the most runs in T20 World Cup history so far. Kohli has scored 1141 runs in 27 matches at an average of 81.50, which also includes 14 fifties at a strike-rate over 130. His highest score in the tournament is 89 not out, which he scored in the 2016 edition of the T20 World Cup.

The former India captain also holds the record for most runs in a single edition of the T20 World Cup. The 2014 edition of the tournament saw him scoring 319 runs in six matches and included four half-centuries.

Leading wicket-takers: The Bangladesh allrounder Shakib Al Hasan currently leads the charts for claiming the most wickets in T20 World Cups. With an impressive tally of 47 wickets in 36 matches, Shakib boasts an average of 18.63 and an economy rate of 6.78. He too has recorded three four-wicket hauls in T20 World Cups, including his standout performance of 4 for 9 against Papua New Guinea in the 2021 edition.

Highest individual score: Brendon McCullum's 123 off 58 balls against Bangladesh at Pallekele in the 2012 edition still remains the highest individual score by a batter in the T20 World Cup.
