This was disclosed by Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad on Friday in a written reply to the Lok Sabha.

Last year, six medical practitioners were punished, whereas, the number of complaints received were 610.

In 2007, 41 medical practitioners were punished after receiving 557 complaints while the next year, 11 medical practitioners were punished as against 499 complaint received.

He said the government has received complaints regarding violation of medical ethics by medical practitioners from time to time which were then forwarded to Medical Council of India (MCI).
