“We will take technological help from London to clean the Yamuna. We are willing to take advantage of their experience,” Dikshit told reporters after meeting the Mayor of London, Boris Johnson.

Johnson, however, added the city of London was yet to complete work on ‘clean and safe Thames project’ under which a separate sewerage system is being constructed underneath the river to dump the waste into the sea directly.

Delhi government has spent hundreds of crores on cleaning the Yamuna in the past few years without any success. The London administration’s effort to clean the Thames River, which was at one time a polluted stream of water flowing through the city, has set an example.

Apart from cleaning the river, the Mayor of London also offered expertise in various other fields including higher education, transport, traffic and housing.
