A number of owners in south Delhi colonies had carried out illegal constructions within their houses by way of converting the stilt area into a room, constructing toilets and kitchens on rooftops among others.

The central zone of the MCD that has south Delhi areas under its jurisdiction took action in Defence Colony, East of Kailash, New Friend's Colony, Bharat Nagar, Bhogal among others.

"A number of property owners in Defence Colony, Greater Kailash I, South Extension I and II and in adjoining areas had carried out illegal constructions in their homes. We had done a survey in all these colonies and have now started taking action," said a senior MCD official.

Demolition action was taken against 11 properties by the building department of

the MCD with the help of

Delhi Police.

"We demolished illegal portions at ground and third floors. Also, illegitimate construction in the stilt area was also demolished. We will continue to take further action," added the official.

Apart from taking action in residential areas, the civic body also partially sealed a popular restaurant in south Delhi's Kailash Colony market.

"We have sealed the ground, first, second and third floors for carrying out illegal construction," the official said.
