MCD demands due from cricket body

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi has issued a warrant of distress to the bankers of Delhi District Cricket Association after the cricket body failed to pay its property tax.

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has issued a warrant of distress to the bankers of Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA) after the cricket body failed to pay its property tax. The warrant, a copy of which is with HT, has asked Syndicate Bank to attach Rs 78,72, 584, which MCD says the cricket association owes. The DDCA, meanwhile, has a lodged an appeal against the warrant, both in the HC and the MCD tribunal.

Speaking to HT, DDCA general secretary S.P. Bansal said, “It was wrong on the MCD's part to send the warrant. We already have an appeal for exemption of the tax in the High Court. The court will hear that on May 18.”

The civic body had asked for Rs 91 lakh that was due. The cricket association had paid Rs 13 lakh, due for 1997-98. Bansal said the court and the tribunal will hear their appeal against the warrant on Wednesday. The MCD said the cricket body has not got any relief from the court as yet.
