"Sealing action will be taken against the properties whose owners did not pay the conversion charges. The drive has already started," MCD spokesperson Deep Mathur said.

Officials said hundreds of properties have already been sealed in various parts of the city. The conversion charge is necessary for shops in stretches notified as commercial or mixed land use under Master Plan for Delhi-2021.

Earlier on January 24, the MCD had also issued a public notice warning action against "misusers" of residential properties if they do not deposit the necessary conversion charges within 15 days.

The owners of properties who have not paid the charges under MPD must do so within 15 days to avoid punitive action like payment of penalty upto 10 times the amount of conversion charges as well as sealing action, it had said.
