Winter chill back in Delhi

Playing hide and seek in the past few days, winter chill returned to the capital this morning with icy wind and the minimum temperature dropping below 10 degrees Celsius.

The morning was comparatively colder compared with the past few days as mercury recorded a minimum of 9.8 degrees Celsius, down by 3.1 degrees from yesterday's lowest temperature, the Met office said.

There was shallow fog in the morning but it did not have much impact on the flight operations at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi.

The weatherman has predicted a more colder day for Delhiites on Wednesday with maximum and minimum settling around 19 and eight degrees Celsius.

January this year has been warmer so far as compared to last year when the minimum dropped below five degrees a number of times. The season's lowest temperature was recorded on January 2 when the minimum dipped to four degrees.

The record for January's minimum temperature is on 16th of 1935 when the temperature fell to -0.6 degrees Celsius. The minimum in 2006 had slumped to 0.2 degrees Celsius.
