Schedule for General Election to the Legislative Assembly of Punjab

Punjab assembly elections 2022 were held in a single phase, on February 20. The state is witnessing a multi-cornered fight between the ruling Congress and key challengers – AAP, Akali Dal and the BJP- Punjab Lok Congress coalition. see more

Punjab Election 2022 schedule was shifted from February 14 to February 20 last month by the Election Commission amid multiple appeals, including that of the Chief Minister, in view of the birth anniversary of Dalit icon Guru Ravidas. The state has a total of 117 seats.

While the Punjab exit poll may generate curiosity, the Election Commission had last month banned the publishing of exit polls between February 10 and March 7.

Punjab election result will be out on March 10.

Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi has been declared as the face of the ruling Congress amid much infighting while the AAP has chosen comic-turned-politician Bhagwant Mann as his pick. An unexpected alliance of former chief minister Amarinder Singh and the BJP took the state by surprise last year after months-long rift over the controversial farm laws that were later withdrawn.

With a huge farm belt, Punjab assembly polls 2022 will have an impact on the national political landscape too.

Apart from farmers’ welfare, other key Punjab election issues are the controversy linked to sacrilege incident, drugs issue and the BJP has also been attacking the Congress over Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s security breach.
