Don’t go green

The much-maligned DTC bus is aiming at an image change, it seems. In an attempt to look fresh and new, the old DTC buses are being given makeover and are being painted a grassy green with a thin stripe of yellow. While this decision was made in light of the upcoming Commonwealth games, the choice of colour doesn’t seem to have gone down well with Delhi’s younger lot.

“The new colour of DTC buses is so boring. It looks very dull,” says Rohan Sharma, a DU student. “Bring the old colours back”, he adds. Some feel that changing the colour of the buses is like tampering with history. “The old colour scheme of DTC buses is a part of what we grew up with. For me it’s like heritage. Why would they want to change it to such a dull colour? Why not repaint them in the old colour scheme?” says Abhishek Trehan, a management trainee. “What was wrong with the old colour? I think it looked very asthetic,” says Jatin Kocchar, a Delhi-based businessman. Srishti Wadhva, a DU student, feels the colour is “tacky.”

Some are lamenting the difference between the colour of the new DTC low-floor buses and these newly painted ones. “Had the colour been like that of low floor buses, I would have understood the need to change it. If the idea was to bring uniformity in the bus fleet then they should have taken care to match the colours at least,” says Karan Dogra, an engineering student.
