Paul Rudd takes a jibe at Donald Trump while talking secrecy around Avengers Doomsday: 'It's not like military secrets'

Paul Rudd referred to the Donald Trump administration's handling of Signalgate in a cryptic manner while talking about Avengers Doomsday.

Actor Paul Rudd was recently announced to be back in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Ant-Man, as Marvel Studios unveiled the cast of Avengers: Doomsday. Shortly after the announcement, Paul was on The Tonight Show, where host Jimmy Fallon quizzed him on his return, leading to a subtle dig at US President Donald Trump and his team's recent faux pas about military secrets. Paul Rudd on Avengers Doomsday

Fallon initially asked Paul Rudd about being introduced in the lineup with a tiny director's chair, as opposed to regular-sized chairs for other cast members. "I thought that was clever. 'Yes, I'm Ant man'. But there's still that part of me that feels a little emasculated to have a tiny chair. But at least finally one that will fit me when I sit down," Paul Rudd quipped.

As the host asked him what he could tell the audience about the film, the actor replied, "There is nothing that I can tell you. They are very secretive. It's important. Clearly, as we know they never announce anything. This is a major movie. You cannot be frivolous with this kind of stuff. It's nothing like military secrets or anything. This is a major motion picture." When Fallon chimed in, saying 'this is not something you put in a group chat,' Rudd added to the joke, saying, 'Yeah, this is not like a coordinated attack somewhere'.

The references to the coordinated attack and group chat were about Signalgate, a major scandal in the US where a journalist from The Atlantic was accidentally added to a Signal group chat where US attack plans for Yemen were being shared. After the lid blew of the incident, the Trump administration claimed tha plans were not 'confidential'. Following this, The Atlantic published all the texts.

All about Avengers Doomsday

On Wednesday, Marvel unveiled the cast of Avengers: Doomsday in a five-hour-long live stream. The film features a mix of familiar Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) faces and newcomers from the X-Men and Fantastic Four franchises.

The cast includes Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Tom Hiddleston (Loki), Anthony Mackie (Captain America), Paul Rudd (Ant-Man), Letitia Wright (Black Panther), Simu Liu (Shang-Chi), Sebastian Stan (The Winter Soldier), Florence Pugh (Yelena Belova), Wyatt Russell (US Agent), Patrick Stewart (Professor X), Ian McKellen (Magneto), James Marsden (Cyclops), Rebecca Romijn (Mystique), Pedro Pascal (Mr. Fantastic), Vanessa Kirby (The Invisible Woman), Ebon Moss-Bachrach (The Thing), Joseph Quinn (The Human Torch), along with Tenoch Huerta Mejia (Namor), and Robert Downey Jr (Doctor Doom).

Avengers: Doomsday is set to release on May 1, 2026, with a follow-up film, Avengers: Secret Wars, scheduled for May 7, 2027.
