I suddenly found myself on a surfboard, riding one large wave after another, trying my level best not to fall off! That’s what I felt like a few days ago as I sat in a freewheeling chat with the editorial team of
in their Mumbai office. That discussion became a catalyst... a key to unlocking so many memories that I had all but forgotten. It was a very surreal experience!
The past few years have been such a whirlwind for me and I was so happy to do what I was doing that I never really stopped to introspect and even breathe! But, as I sat there answering a volley of questions, I was suddenly reminded about so many important moments and aspects of my life that I had pushed into the recesses of my mind. It had been a long day of promotions before I made my way to
and by the end of it all, I was exhausted. But... I was also suddenly rejuvenated.
What that session did for me, was to remind me of my journey to where I am today. As I drove to another meeting (in Mumbai these drives can be quite long), I reflected on all that was discussed. What a ride... ups and downs, fast and slow, good and bad, big and small, joy and pain... I had experienced it all... and I survived, slightly bruised, but overall in good condition and in a good place.
I stand today at the release of my new film
. The story is very real and so very relatable. In a sense, there are so many ways in which PI links back to what I just talked about... I believe that each one of has a geek inside of us... filled with insecurities, afraid of rejection, scared that we might not be good enough. But the biggest lesson I have learnt and something I practice everyday is that.. for your own sake.. you need to take the risk... take the plunge... whatever happens, you will never have to live with the regret that you did not even attempt it. I’ve taken many risks, some have worked, some have failed... but at least I tried! That’s the message of this film and my life!
Jugal, Uday and the rest of us have put our heart and souls in making
. We’re proud of the outcome... and we’re sure you’ll like it too! Catch it in theatres today!
