Anupama Parameswaran says she was almost engaged

Anupama claimed that she was in a relationship with a ‘narcissistic’ person for two years and that they were ready to get engaged only three months into the relationship. “By the time they start controlling you, they would get attached to you to an extent where, after the first couple of dates, you’re taken to their house. You’re meeting their family, having lunch with them. And in three months, the person is talking about engagement. And the family is asking, which destination do you prefer, how many people do you want? Three months into the relationship…it can’t be that fast,” she said.

The actor also revealed to those who called her a ‘gold digger’ that she was the one to postpone the engagement because she felt their marriage would end in divorce. “For the people who call me a gold digger and all these names, I want to make one thing clear. I would have gotten married to that person, and probably that would’ve ended up in a divorce if I didn’t stop the engagement call. I knew this was not love; this was just desperation so that I would quit acting. I always said, I think this person is really young. We need to take a little more time. If the concern is kids, we can freeze eggs,” she said.

Anupama reiterated that she kept postponing the engagement because she had a ‘gut’ feeling that it wasn’t love, but desperation to get her under control. She also stated that, instead of feeling at peace, she always felt worried in the relationship.

Rumours of dating Dhruv Vikram

Anupama did not name anyone since she got candid on social media in July about going through a breakup. She has been vocal with her captions about being in a controlling relationship and healing from it. The actor last posted in February; before that, they were absent from social media for a while. In early 2025, Anupama and Dhruv Vikram sparked rumours that they were dating when fans unearthed an unverified picture of them kissing, which they claimed was the display picture for their shared Spotify playlist.

After sharing the screen in Bison Kaalamaadan, the couple sparked rumours that they were dating at some award shows in Chennai and Mumbai. However, since her return to social media, Anupama claimed that she wasn’t allowed to promote her hit film Dragon or post on social media without permission. She also compared her unnamed ex-boyfriend to Vikram’s split-personality character Anniyan for their unpredictable behaviour. Anupama's next film, Crazy Kalyanam, is releasing on August 19.
