Three accused in Manesar gang-rape case sent to custody

Police have questioned the three in detail and reconstructed the sequence of events

The three men accused in the Manesar gang-rape case were sent to Bhondsi jail on Monday after being produced before the duty magistrate. The trio will remain in judicial custody for 14 days.

On May 29, the three had given a lift to a 19-year-old woman in their Tata Magic van after which they had allegedly taken her to a vacant plot in Manesar and raped her. They had also killed her eight-month old daughter. The three were identified as Yogender, Amit and Jaikesh — all of them from Bulandshahr in Uttar Pradesh.

During the investigation, the police questioned the three in detail and also reconstructed the sequence of events. Their blood samples, mobile phones, clothes worn during the crime and their van was also seized. The police also matched their faces with the photos taken from the footage of local CCTV cameras.

The police had also arrested Rajesh Kumar, the Canter driver who had allegedly molested the victim in his vehicle before she met the three men. Kumar, who was arrested from Begumpur Khatola village near Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway, has already been sent to judicial custody.

It has also been found that he had earlier served a five-year jail term for attempt to murder.

Manesar ACP Dharmvir Singh said a case under Section 307 of the IPC was registered at Jahangirpuri police station in Bulandshahr against him.

The police has also asked the Bulandshahr police to find out if there are more cases against him.

Gurgaon police commissioner Sandeep Khirwar said all efforts are being made to ensure that a watertight case is built against the accused.
