To recall Meena and Mishra came to the city and held a high level meeting with ADA and NN officials at Circuit House on April 15 to discuss the issues related to encroachment, parking, congestion, transport system, condition of roads and other issues as part of the Allahabad High Court directives given on a Public Interest Litigation.

Several plans like starting of demolition drive and setting up of parking places in Katra and Civil Lines areas by the officials concerned in the prescribed time of one week could not be implemented in right earnest. Though a team of ADA had gone to Sardar Patel Marg to carry out an operation on last Sunday but the officials had to return empty handed.

Sources said the officials could not reply to the queries of residents and traders with regard to undertaking the drive despite being there for about five hours.

The house owners next day met the Commissioner Dr Lalit Verma and demanded 48 hours additional time from him.

However, this time limit has also passed but the action is still awaited. ADA has yet to physically verify whether the assurance given by the house owners to demolish the illegal construction themselves has been fulfilled by them. Common refrain is that ADA's much-hyped operation demolition has itself been demolished.

Meanwhile the High Court's order to stop construction on multi-storeyed buildings in city area is yet to be fully implemented by ADA. Sources alleged that a number of construction works were still in progress in Civil Lines area.

Understandably, encroachment and illegally constructed commercial and residential complexes continue to eat into the vitals of the city, at times, even slicing off major chunks of roads.
