Dhawan (27) scored two perfectly-paced centuries, neatly timed shots underlining his class while Rohit Sharma’s back-to-back half-centuries have helped him shake off criticism that he has not delivered on his talent

Former India skipper, Kapil Dev, was delighted. “This boy (Dhawan) is such an amazing batsman, I am sure he is here to stay,” he said. “No one here in England is talking about the past... everyone is just talking about Shikhar and his batting.”

“This is a good sign for Indian cricket. Many young players are already taking over from the seniors. The change is going smoothly,” he added.
