According to health officials, as many as five patients died in BRD Medical College Hospital since last evening, while 68 fresh patients with encephalitis symptoms were admitted.
Additional director (Health) LP Rawat said that as many as 230 patients are being treated at BRD MCH, while 32 patients are undergoing treatment in district hospitals of Kushinagar, Gorakhpur, Deoria, Basti and Siddharthanagar.
He said that 1,348 patients came to various hospitals of the region this year, of which 280 had died so far.
The dead include one each from Gorakhpur, Deoria, Kushinagar and Maharajganj districts and one from Bihar, Rawat said, adding that most of the children were below 15 years.
