The people in Raigad district could face floods as water level of Savitri river is rising continuously and has entered Mahad town in the district in Maharashtra today following heavy rain at nearby hill station of Mahabaleshwar.

According to district collector Bhaskar Wankade, the rise in water level in the river was due to high tide also.

Heavy rains continued in Mahad town and the water level has reached two and half feet, he said adding, no damage to the life or property is reported so far.

The people are prepared to face the floods as it is an annual affair, Wankade said and added that once the low tide sets in, the water level is expected to go down relatively.

Mahad has received 52 mm of rainfall so far, he added.
