Director of vector borne diseases department, Rambabau, apprised the chief medical officers of Varanasi, Azamgarh, Gorakpur division and the affected districts of Bihar, about the plan to eradicate kala-azar disease in the bordering areas.
He said the government target was to eradicate kala-azar by 2010. Rambabau emphasised on the survey of patients, diagnosis and treatment to ensure that the affected areas became Kalazar free.
Rambabau said there were total 197 cases of Kalazar in Uttar Pradesh including 11 in Varanasi, 3 in Deoria, 110 in Kushinagar, 29 in Gonda and 55 cases in Ballia.
He stressed on door-to door campaign by concerned Health authorities with the help of NGOs in the Kalazar affected villages and blocks. He also emphasised on the orientation of medical officers.
Chief Medical Officer of Varanasi, Dr AP Singh said a survey had been conducted under the supervision of renowned physician of Banaras Hindu University (BHU), Dr. Shyam Sunder Agrawal in affected villages in Varanasi including Bhulanpur, Harpalpur and Tamachabad.
Dr Singh gave a brief report of a testing kit K-39, which was developed by Dr Shyam Sundar Agrawal. He said this device was 99 percent successful in detecting Kalazar.
The Civil Surgeons of the bordering districts of Bihar promised to extend all possible cooperation to eradicate the disease in the bordering districts of UP and Bihar. They informed that the disease was rampant in Gopalganj, Siwan, Chappara, Champaran and Buxsar districts.
