Singh reached the collectorate with large number of his supporters and party workers, including Rajnandgaon Lok Sabha BJP candidate Pradeep Gandhi and filed his nomination as a BJP candidate.

Singh is locked in a multi-corner contest from the Dongargaon seat where from former Congress Minister Geeta Devi Singh and Bahujan Samaj Party's Mangaldas Banjare are among others in the fray.

The by-election was necessitated after Gandhi vacated the seat for the Chief Minister where as swaping position he is contesting from Rajnandgaon parliamentary constituency which was represented by Singh in the dissolved Lok Sabha.
