WB celebrates I-Day amidst tight security

I-Day was celebrated in West Bengal amidst tight security deployment in view of blasts and insurgent activities in the country.

Independence Day was celebrated in West Bengal amidst tight security deployment in view of blasts and insurgent activities in the country.

Hoisting the tricolour at Writers Buildings, Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee stressed on the need to maintain integrity, sovereignty and communal harmony in the country.

"We will have to be firm against fundamentalist and secessionist forces destroying the fabric of the country. We will have to fight against these forces together.

"The democratic fabric of our state is strong. By decentralising power and by implementing the panchayati raj system we have been able to improve the quality of life in the villages," he said.

He also stressed the need for industrialisation for balanced development in the state, which he described as industry friendly.
