Emotional Vikas Khanna shares note for 1st employer in US: ‘I would cook and clean in her apartment’

Vikas Khanna’s first employer in the US helped him pay his education fees at New York University.

Celebrity chef Vikas Khanna recently paid tribute to his first employer in the United States on Instagram. 26 years after his first job as a cook in an apartment in New York, chef Khanna expressed his gratitude to Mrs Pushpa Sabharwal in a heartfelt post.

Vikas Khanna pays respect to his first employer

Vikas Khanna moved to the US in 2000 to pursue a career in the culinary field. Apart from his living expenses in a foreign country, Khanna had to financially support his studies at New York University. He was struggling to make ends meet. At that point, he met his first employer, Mrs Pushpa Sabharwal.

“I would cook and clean in her apartment, and slowly, doors began opening for me in that same building. At one point, I was working in 4 apartments,” Khanna revealed in his latest Instagram post.

In the photo, Khanna is seen accompanying Sabharwal and another woman. “Today, with the blessings of these two incredible women, I have been able to buy one of the biggest apartments right here,” the 53-year-old wrote.

He added that the two women in the photo shaped his journey “long before the world knew my name”. “I turned on the gas and cooked for them again — just like the old days,” he said. “My heart is full of gratitude and love. Forever,” Khanna concluded.

Sabharwal helped Vikas Khanna pay his college fees

Pushpa Sabharwal did not just offer employment to a young Vikas Khanna. She also helped him pay his fees at New York University. “As my ritual for 23 years. Whenever I create something significant, I always take it for the blessings of Mrs. Pushpa Sabharwal. She was one of my first employers in NY. At that time I used to do private cooking and clean people’s apartments in NY and NJ, ” Khanna revealed in an X post in 2023.
