Inspector Jeetendra Bhobe of Mahim police station said there was one incident of chain-snatching and another of pick-pocketing reported. He said, "In the first incident, the crowd caught hold of a person who allegedly stole the wallet of one of the people in the procession. The crowd brought the man to the police station, following which we registered a case against him," he said.
In the second instance, too, the crowd handed over a person - present at the rally - after he allegedly snatched the chain of someone in the rally. "While we have registered the cases, we are investigating to find out if the chain could also have snapped in the melee," Bhobe said.
The Shivaji Park police also registered a case of chain-snatching against a person present in the procession who was suspected to have snatched the gold chain of another person after the crowd handed him to the police station.
