Out of 440 Covid-19 positive cases registered in AP since May 5, 150 were that of Telugu-speaking migrants from various states such as Gujarat, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Odisha, West Bengal and Karnataka, said an official bulletin released by the state nodal officer for Covid-19, Arja Sreekanth, on Friday.

Telangana, Andhra together register over 100 positive Covid-19 cases in a single day

There were 66 new positive cases in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh reported 38 new cases. The total number of cases in Telangana went up to 766 and in Andhra Pradesh to 572. There were no new deaths from any part of the Telugu states – the toll continues to remain at 18 in Telangana and 14 in Andhra.

Four youngsters from Jeevakonda village near Tirupati had arrived at Tupilipalem, about 150 km away from home, on Tuesday night to celebrate the New Year on the beachside. Three of them were swept away by huge waves when they went swimming in the sea in the early hours of Wednesday. Locals saved the fourth youth.

The boat’s location is about 10-15 km away from the Krishnapatnam port and 50 km north of Sriharikota. It was fitted with a Yamaha engine and contained two oil cans of 20-litre capacity with a Sri Lankan sticker on it, an empty water bottle of five-litre capacity, a blanket and a few burnt cigarettes and beedis.
