A Palestinian man has been killed by Israeli troops in the West Bank refugee camp of Balata. A Palestinian witness, Naim Abdel Salam, says the man was killed late on Monday in an ambush by undercover forces. The military says he tried to escape arrest, was shot in the legs and later died of his injuries.

The man was identified as Mohammed Abu Daragh. He was 27 years old and a member of the Al Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades, a violent group that has largely halted its activities. Most Al Aqsa members have received amnesty from Israel.

Palestinian officials say Abu Daragh had also been granted amnesty and accused Israel of violating the agreement. Army officials say Abu Daragh was involved in violent activity in recent months.
