Sealife killed by volcanoes

Researchers have discovered that huge volcanic eruptions in the region that is now India warmed the planet and killed life on the ocean floor, shortly before dinosaurs were wiped out 65 million years ago.

Researchers have discovered that huge volcanic eruptions in the region that is now India warmed the planet and killed life on the ocean floor, shortly before dinosaurs were wiped out 65 million years ago.

It is believed that dinosaurs went extinct after an asteroid at least 9km in diameter slammed into Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula.

However, researchers found that by the time of the asteroid impact, life on the seafloor was already perishing because of the effects of volcanic eruptions on the Deccan Plateau.
