In the Indian Premier League and the T20 format, fifties and hundreds often struggle to tell the full tale of an innings, or indeed even a full campaign. While those landmarks continue to have prestige and an air of importance, the achievement of milestones has stopped being the focus for batters in the format.
Often, the best batters in an IPL season might not rack up the fifties, but will have plenty of innings where they play powerful, impactful knocks that might fall short and still prove to be of huge importance to their team. In the early days of T20 cricket, broadcasters used to show how often batters have scored 30s, which come in all shapes and sizes – rapid knocks achieved with blistering boundaries in 12 to 15 balls at the end of the innings, or slower and more measured efforts that the team needs to steady the ship after a few quick wickets.
30s aren’t the be all and end all either – it’s bery easy to have a poor knock of 30, one which takes too long and never quite gets going. But over the course of the season, the players who sit at the top of the leaderboard are those who have been amongst the best in the tournament, capable of wearing many hats and playing all sorts of different kinds of roles.
In the IPL of 2025, the most 30+ scores were achieved by Suryakumar Yadav, whose remarkable run towards the end of the season saw him rack up substantial innings after substantial innings. In 16 matches, he scored seven 30+ scores, very rarely falling short of that mark and making sure he made it count once he got set: the Indian captain finished with 717 runs for the season.
The second-most scores of 30+ came from the bat of a surprising source – Tristan Stubbs, the trusty finisher down the order for the Delhi Capitals. Despite coming in lower down the order regularly, the talented South African showed excellent crease safety and an ability to bat through, scoring 30+ six times in IPL 2025.
Following this pair was a group of players with five scores of 30+: the Gujarat Titans trio of Jos Buttler, Sai Sudharsan, and Sherfane Rutherford, plus Heinrich Klaasen, Abishek Porel, Riyan Parag, and Shivam Dube.
In the history of the IPL, the player with the most knocks of 30+ will come as no surprise. In 259 innings, Virat Kohli has crossed the 30 threshold on 126 occasions, or essentially once every two innings – and given his conversion rate, this is a frankly unbelievable number.
Kohli is the only player to breach 30+ more than 100 times, although he is followed by a group of players in the 90s, namely Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, and David Warner, all of whom are in that 90s club. Rohit, on 98 scores of 30+, will be gunning to join Kohli in the centurions’ club with a handful of strong performances for Mumbai Indians in the 2026 IPL season.
