In the inaugural match of the IPL in 2008, Brendon McCullum lit up the tournament with a breathtaking knock of 158 not out off 73 balls for Kolkata Knight Riders against Royal Challengers Bangalore. His innings, packed with 10 fours and 13 sixes, set the tone for the explosive brand of cricket that IPL would come to be known for. However, his record was later broken in 2013 when Chris Gayle delivered one of the most destructive innings in T20 history. Playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore against Pune Warriors India, Gayle smashed an unbeaten 175 off just 66 balls, a knock that included 13 fours and a staggering 17 sixes. His innings still remains the highest individual score in IPL history and also holds records for the fastest century and most sixes in a single innings.
