“The process of consultations to set up the grid is complete. It will come up for approval soon. In a week or soon…” a home ministry official said on Wednesday.

Home Minister P. Chidambaram had last year appointed former head of Mahindra Special Services Group Raghu Raman as chief executive officer of the NATGRID project.

Once NATGRID is set up by May 2011, it would provide security agencies access into 21 categories of databases including bank account details, credit card transactions, visa and immigration records.

Chidambaram also intends to get formal nod from the Cabinet to set up the National Counter Terrorism Centre.
