Railway Protection Force (RPF) has released its cut-off marks for the recruitment exam of sub-inspector, on its official website. It is interesting to find that the cut-off marks for OBC category in Group A and Group F in the result is higher than the general category cut-off.
Yes, you read it right. The cut-off marks for OBC category is higher than general category. Let’s take deeper look into the marks.
In Group A (male)- The cut-off marks for OBC candidates is 95.53 while for the unreserved category, the cut-off is 94.59. However, the difference is not much here.
In Group F (male)- The cut-off marks for OBC candidates is 87.33 but the general category cut-off is 76.99. Here, the difference is of 9 marks.
If we look closely to the cut-off marks of other groups we find that the there is a difference between the cutoff of OBC and General is of 2-3 marks only.
In Group B, the OBC cutoff is 97.38 while for General category, the cutoff is 100.76. In Group C, the OBC cutoff is 92.63 while for General category, the cutoff is 94.02. In Group D, the OBC cutoff is 97.75 while General cutoff is 99.95. In Group E, the OBC cutoff is 77.32 and General cutoff is 74.22.
However, it should be considered that the cut-off marks depends on the reservation percentage, the number of candidates who took the exam and the number of vacancy.

This is not the first time that the cutoff marks of OBC is higher than the unreserved category. Earlier in the year 2013, Rajasthan Public Service Commission had set the OBC cut-off at the highest level in the Rajasthan Civil Services exam (RAS) .
Recently, in the Delhi government teachers recruitment exam, the cutoff marks for schedule caste (SC) was set higher than the unreserved category. The qualifying marks for general category was 80.96 while for SC it was 85.45.
