“We have received a ‘Class A’ certificate from the International Athletics Federation on August 28. This is the first stadium in India to receive such a high rating,” CK Valson, the Games Competition Manager (Athletics) told mediapersons at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.

“The heavy rains will not affect the track at all. There is no question of any doubt,” Valson said as he tried to dissipate the media queries owing to the heavy downpour that continued throughout the mediapersons’ presence at the Stadium.

“We have a three-layered cover for the tracks. Of these, the first is a soil/mud/sand layer, which has been firmed up using the rollers. If needed, we will also put plywood covers on the surface,” Valson added.

Soon after the opening ceremony, a readymade lawn (grass layer), which is being grown at Hapur some 150 kms from Delhi, will be brought in and laid within 24 hours, he said.
