Joining Samajwadi Party over the Jamia encounter issue, Railway Minister Lalu Prasad on Tuesday demanded an inquiry into the gunbattle, saying it will help to clear all doubts.
The government should order a probe to come clean on the Jamia Nagar encounter in South Delhi, Prasad said on the sidelines of a railway seminar.
"I had spoken to the Prime Minister and Home Minister on the matter. I told them the need for such a probe," he said.
However, the minister did not insist on judicial probe. "I am not asking specifically for a judicial probe. But there should be a probe to clear all doubts," RJD chief said.
Prasad also pointed out that the matter was raised in the National Integration Council meeting where many political parties and individuals demanded a probe into the incident.
Earlier, Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh had demanded a judicial probe into the incident.
