Content creator Suruchi shares her journey of relocating to Bengaluru – despite homesickness and a demanding work life, she finds solace in local experiences.

Remember what it was like to pack up your bags, sever ties with the familiar, and move cities for a career? On August 9, 10 months after swapping the glass towers of Gurgaon for the lush views of Bengaluru, content creator Suruchi captured that exact emotional whiplash in an Instagram post reflecting on her move. “I thought I was just moving cities. Didn't realise I was leaving behind a whole version of my life I had known for the last five years,” she wrote, tracing the quiet, beautiful friction of starting over.

For young women charting independent paths across India’s corporate epicentre, relocating is often painted as a sleek career milestone. Yet, as Suruchi's post showed, behind the seamless resume upgrade lies a subtler shift in rhythm, independence, and identity.

Navigating work, distance, and quiet weekends

The physical distance alters access to home, turning spontaneous trips into logistics, Suruchi shared. She wrote, “Homesickness is real. Miss the flexibility of just booking an overnight bus from Gurgaon to my home. Now it's more planning, aligning with work, booking flights in advance.” Also read | Forget doorstep delivery: Delhi man shows he orders on Blinkit in Manali, then hikes 2 km to get it

With a career move driving the relocation, work quickly takes over daily routine, she added: “Since switching jobs was the reason you moved cities, work naturally starts taking more of your time. you start looking forward to weekdays & wonder if you are becoming that person who is always working.”

Suruchi highlighted that the contrast in social life becomes noticeable when the week ends. “Back in Gurgaon, I was always surrounded by people. Weekends were lively. Now there’s more time to pause and reflect… but sometimes it gets a lil too quiet," she said.

Filter coffee and the freedom of four walls

Adaptation slowly takes root through independence and local flavours. Suruchi said, “You start enjoying the absolute freedom of setting up your own space, decorating it your way and slowly making it home.”

She shared that new routines have begun to offer comfort, from 'dosa and filter coffee' to simply 'soaking it all, one filter coffee at a time'. Then there is the famous 'Bangalore weather', standing under a dramatic sunset and capturing the inevitable reaction, she shared, writing, “And you realise why people say 'mausum acha hai yaar (the weather if good)'.” Also read | 'Clear skies here, rain there': Founder captures Bengaluru's unpredictable weather in one view

Coexistence of memory and present

Suruchi’s journey reflected the emotional nuance of building an independent life in a new city — learning that moving forward does not mean erasing the past. As she observed of her duality: “You miss the life you had back then… the places, people. But also love the life you’ve built here. And somewhere along the way… you realise both can co-exist.”
