It took 12 fire engines and 10 water tankers two hours to douse the fire that engulfed the third floor of the Exchange building in Ballard Pier.

The third floor of the four-storey building has the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) office, three rooms of which were completely gutted, said a fire officer on the spot.

“We noticed smoke coming out of the window, so all employees rushed out of the building. Within 15 minutes, the fire became bigger and most part of the third floor was engulfed,” said a person who works on the second floor.

The reason of the fire is yet to be confirmed.

“The officers are investigating the cause of fire, statements of the employees and eye witnesses have been recorded. The report will be submitted in 3-7 days,” said chief fire officer Suhas Joshi.
