This will help the government maintain a separate database of minority students and will be helpful in both the admission process and in getting special scholarships.

The lack of a database was making it difficult for the government to select worthy students for such schemes.

Also, there are several minority colleges that have special reservations for students from a specific linguistic minority or a religious minority — they have to reserve 50% of the total seats as minority quota.

If it has been mentioned in the forms, it would make it easier for the admission process too.

The decision was taken in a meeting between education minister Rajendra Darda and minorities minister Naseem Khan on Monday.

“We will be compiling this list and forwarding it to the minorities department which will help the government in the future,” said Darda while talking to HT.

Those students, who come from a minority and also come f rom a reserved category according to caste like SC/ST/ OBC, can mark both columns, which mention a specific caste along with the column where minority i s mentioned, an official said.
