Worst affected are the three I-League clubs based here. Apart from the I-League, the stadium will also play host to the Santosh Trophy in July and later the IFA Shield.

"What enrages us is that we were never asked for an opinion on the matter. It was just the whim of the state government ," said Chirag United club director, Nabab Bhattacharya.

East Bengal secretary, Santosh Bhattacharya, suggested authorities should see how the one-star status could be upgraded.

Mohun Bagan secretary, Anjan Mitra, however, blamed the government.
