Walkathon to spread awareness against drug abuse

Organised by author and co-founder of the Punjab Lit Foundation, Khushwant Singh, the walk commenced with an ardas (prayer) at Chaunni Kalan village, seeking divine blessings to rejuvenate Punjab’s youth and free them from the clutches of addiction.

Punjab governor Gulab Chand Kataria, while announcing the Nasha Mukt-Rangla Punjab campaign in Amritsar on Friday, had urged the civil society to actively support the people’s walk against drugs. Guest column: Remembering the Sardarji in the bulb and his Sardarni

We were privileged to have been granted a moment — a memory — with one of the finest writers of our times, a man whose stories, much like the man himself, would never fade.

Our paths crossed with Khushwant Singh many times thereafter — at Pingalwara, where he donated generously; in Delhi, at E-49, his red-brick Sujan Singh Park apartment, where a sign on his door read, “Do not ring the doorbell unless you are expected”; and in Kasauli, where conversations flowed freely. Closure of Daryaganj book market evokes shock, outrage and nostalgia

Started in 1974 and known for the availability of rare titles at throwaway prices, the Sunday book bazar in Daryaganj was shut down following a recent Delhi High Court order to the North Delhi Municipal Corporation to ensure that weekly bazars on Sundays were not permitted on Netaji Subhash Marg.

Khushwant Singh Lit Fest to kick off on October 12 in Kasauli

First held in 2012, the literary festival was the only to be named after a living author. Since Khushwant Singh did most of his writing in Kasauli, it was only fitting that the festival be organised at the hill station.
