Intruder forces plane to stop

In a serious security breach at the Patna airport, a man reached the tarmac, forcing a GoAir flight to Delhi to clamp on its emergency brakes while gathering speed for a takeoff. No one was injured.

The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel at the airport went into a tizzy and arrested the intruder. An airport official said that the intruder was aged around 40 and appeared to be mentally disturbed. He is being interrogated by the CISF.

Preliminary information suggests that the intruder is from Bihar’s Begusarai district. He alighted from a train at Phulwarisharif railway station, ran the short distance to the airport and entered it by scaling its boundary walls.

The Station house officer of the airport police station MK Jaiswal said, “The incident took place around 6.30pm. The man has been identified as Kishore Paswan and seems to be extremely nervous and tense. His behaviour forced the GoAir plane to stop.”

The breach is being considered by the airport authorities as very serious in the light of the recent Maoist and terror-related incidents in and around the state.

The GoAir flight left after a 20-minute delay due to the incident.
