NCB seizes 1.8 kg of Alprazolam and 9,696 bottles of cough syrup

The Mumbai zonal unit of the NCB has seized contraband, including drugs and illicitly-diverted medicines, and arrested four people in multiple operations. The seized drugs include 1.84 kg of Alprazolam and 9,696 bottles of codeine-based cough syrup. The NCB has disrupted several drug trafficking networks with international and interstate linkages.

Wankhede cites CAT order in support of his petition to quash case

Former Mumbai zonal director of NCB, Sameer Wankhede, submitted an affidavit in Bombay High Court supporting his petition to quash the FIR filed against him by CBI. Wankhede cited a CAT order stating that the FIR is based on an allegedly unsustainable report by the NCB's Special Enquiry Team. The CBI FIR accuses Wankhede of demanding a bribe from actor Shah Rukh Khan. Wankhede's affidavit argues that the case against him is an abuse of the process of law and should be quashed.

Cordellia drugs case: CBI court denies interim protection to Sanville D’souza

Sanville D'souza, accused of attempting to broker a deal between then Narcotics Control Bureau officials and actor Shah Rukh Khan, has been denied interim protection by a special Central Bureau of Investigation court. D'souza claims he was tortured and illegally detained by the NCB's special enquiry team to get his confession. The court will pass its order on his plea for anticipatory bail on Wednesday. The CBI opposed the plea, saying D'souza had failed to attend its probe and had not given any reasonable grounds that he had been falsely implicated.

The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) was countering Wankhede’s claim that the sanction to probe the allegations were belated.

The agency had accused Wankhede and the others of conspiring to extort <span class='webrupee'>₹</span>25 crore from film star Shah Rukh Khan in exchange of not booking his son, Aryan, in the drugs bust case and subsequently obtaining a bribe of <span class='webrupee'>₹</span>50 lakh from the actor. NIDAAN: First portal on arrested narco offenders by NCB to aid various agencies

The NIDAAN platform sources its data from the ICJS (inter-operable criminal justice system) and the e-Prisons (a cloud-based application) repository and it is planned to integrate it in the future with the crime and criminal tracking network system or CCTNS, said a senior officer.
