Power demand surges in Punjab, breaches 14,000-MW mark

Last year on the same day, the maximum power demand was 13,125 MW. PSPCL officials said the maximum power demand in the state is likely to touch 17,300 MW this year during the paddy season – which would start on June 1.

Pahalgam terror attack: HC dismisses PIL seeking martyr status for victims

Twenty-six tourists were killed last month when terrorists opened fire in the Baisaran meadow of Pahalgam. The terror attack led to an armed conflict between India and Pakistan, raising fears of an all-out war, before an agreement was reached on May 10.

The plea had also sought a declaration to rename the attack site as “Memorable Martyrs/Shaheed Hindu Valley Tourist Place” to honour the memory of the slain tourists and “embed their sacrifice in national consciousness”.

Relief for seniors, PwDs, Chandigarh administration allows lifts in multi-storey CHB units

In a letter to the chief executive officer (CEO) of the board, the UT estate office said the allottees are allowed to install lifts, provided the design is manually approved by a private architect empanelled with the Chandigarh administration. Before seeking design approval, the allottees must obtain a no-objection certificate (NOC) from the CHB.

In older buildings that don’t have sufficient internal space to accommodate lifts, the Chandigarh administration has granted permission to construct lifts on a nearby suitable land, subject to certain conditions. (HT File)
