NCERT includes chapter on National War Memorial in Class 7 English textbook

The decision was taken with an objective to inculcate the values of patriotism, devotion to duty and courage and sacrifice among school children and increase the participation of youth in nation building, according to a Defence Ministry statement

While the Amar Jawan Jyoti was lit in 1972 after the 1971 war, the India Gate honors the soldiers of British Army who fell between 1914-1921. The National War Memorial honors the fallen brave hearts, who fought for independent India against Pakistan, China, Sri Lanka and in counter-terrorist ops.

Soon, India Gate visitors may be allowed to park cars at high court

Confirming that the police have requested them to make the parking space available for tourists, the high Court registry said the proposal is pending approval. The multilevel automated underground parking facility in the Delhi high court, generally used by advocates, reportedly has a capacity of about 1,300 vehicles.

Drawing inspiration from the ‘Chakravyuh’ formation, the iconic National War Memorial was Monday unveiled boasts of four thematic concentric circles with a tall ceremonial obelisk at its centre that will bear the eternal flame.Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicated the memorial, spread over 40 acres in the India Gate complex in New Delhi, by lighting the flame positioned at the bottom of the stone-made obelisk.Chief of Integrated Defence Staff Lt Gen P S Rajeshwar, during a briefing here, also said the Amar Jawan Jyoti built in 1972 underneath the India Gate arch to commemorate soldiers martyred in the Indo-Pak War of 1971, will continue to be there.A senior defence official said the project has been executed at a cost of ₹176 crore and its design was selected through a global competition.Follow Highlights here:
