Ludhiana: For 3 weeks, technical glitch prevented residents from applying for fire NOCs

The issue primarily revolved around the failure of the system to generate OTPs, crucial for residents applying for NOCs. Consequently, numerous applicants faced hurdles in submitting their requests, leading to a backlog of as many as 118 pending applications.

According to data from the department, similar backlogs were reported across various districts, with 108 pending files in Muktsar, 133 in Jalandhar, 52 in Moga MC, 37 in Patiala MC, 29 in Phagwara MC, and 43 in Mohali MC. (HT File)

BMC lifts curbs on construction within 500 m of defence depots

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) in Mumbai has decided to process fresh proposals for construction projects near defence establishments without requiring No Objection Certificates (NOC). This decision is expected to benefit families living near these establishments, as well as builders and developers in the area. The move comes after the Bombay High Court struck down all defence circulars regarding buffer zones. The BMC will now consult with the law officer on legal issues before proceeding with approvals. However, the BMC will still require an affidavit from owners/developers stating they will withdraw any pending petitions before granting approvals.

Petitions against metro lines disposed of by HC

Bombay High Court has dismissed two writ petitions against Metro 4 and Metro 2B filed by Indo Nippon Chemical Company and Shree Yashwant Housing Society respectively. The court ruled in favour of MMRDA and the government, finding no error in the land acquisition proceedings and the implementation of the metro project. The Shree Yashwant Society case delayed the project by 46 months and escalated the cost by INR12m ($161,000). MMRDA also received a green signal for another court case against Metro 2B, where the NOC issued for construction of the metro rail lines near Juhu Airport was challenged.
